Town of Ston
Ston is a small fortified town that belonged to the Dubrovnik Republic. The town inner wall is around 890 metres and the outer Great Wall is around 5.5 km long.
The town has a long tradition of producing salt in its saltworks since it was run by the Dubrovnik Republic.
The town has three streets from north to south and three streets from east to west. The city plan of Dubrovnik was used as a model when Ston was built. But as Ston was built on prepared terrain that model was more successful than in Dubrovnik itself.
The walls of Ston are one of the longest fortresses in the world.
